The Court Appointed Special
Advocate (CASA) program
provides trained community volunteers to advocate for the best
interests of children who come into the court system primarily as a
result of abuse or neglect. The program recruits, screens, trains and
supervises these volunteers to serve as the eyes and ears of the court
as an independent third party "Friend of the Court."
In Dona Ana County CASA
has one-hundred forty seven
(147) open cases and sixty four (64) active volunteers. This serves
well over two-hundred (200) children.
Volunteer Meetings. CASA
has a volunteer meeting the
first Monday of each month at
the Jury Assembly Room in the Third Judicial District Court, 201 W.
Picacho, Las
Cruces, NM 88005. The meeting begins at 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
